3C: urban and social agriculture in times of coronavirus

08-09-2020

The Foundation's urban and social agriculture program, 3C Cultiviting tClimate and Community, continues in this scenario of a new normal, increasing the protection measures for instructors and activists.

After the stoppage carried out on March 18 due to the pandemic and the declared state of alarm, the 3C program resumed its work at the beginning of June, adapting to the new reality and reordering the available human and technical resources. The fundamental objective behind the state of alarm has been to reactivate the 3C participants and try to ensure the sustainability of the program, financed almost entirely with funds generated from the textile management and valorization process.

In this scenario of new normality, the social aspect of the program has been maintained. Thus, in recent weeks, activists from 3C Rivas-Vaciamadrid (Community of Madrid) have donated 110 kilos of vegetables to the Red de Recuperación de Alimentos de Rivas RRAR. In addition, the donation has been completed with an additional 30 kilos delivered by Ataraxia Huertos local Association, of which two of the 3C activists are members.

3C ended 2019 with 10 orchards and 460 active users, who developed their work in 20,600 square meters of cultivated area. Between 2014 and 2019 the activists achieved a production of 94.5 tons of vegetables and greens (of which 15 tons correspond to last year). This level of production supposes 229,000 euros of generation of equivalent monetary value (36,500 € in 2019).

MAKE A DONATION so that programs like this remain a reality and we continue promoting the development of the communities that need it most.
