RECUWASTE: the future of textile waste

21-09-2018

The management of the used textile will be one of the protagonists of RECUWASTE, which will be held in Mataró (Barcelona), October, 8-9. The appointment, with four editions behind him with the name of Recuwatt, starts a new stage focused on the management of waste as the axis of the circular economy.

The conference opens wide to the economy of resources, the local area and innovation, with an eminently international approach so that attendees can learn first-hand experiences and outstanding success stories from around the world and share knowledge.

Round table-Workshop dedicated to textile waste
With this objective to exchange knowledge and experiences, Humana promotes on Monday, October 8, in Area 2, a round table-workshop with the presence of the main agents of the management of the textile used in Catalonia. The purpose is to discuss the challenges of the sector and how to deal with them.

It must be borne in mind that the textile fraction has the highest recovery potential according to the waste hierarchy. In the case of Humana, 61% of the waste prepared is destined for reuse, both in Spain and abroad, and 29% recycled. The rest, 10%, is distributed among banal and improper waste.

In this context, with this workshop we will discuss the following points:

  • What model of clothing consumption do we have, and how does it influence this reality?
  • What are the factors that make selective collection so limited and what are the main actions to be taken to improve the results?
  • What role do social economy entities play?
  • What capacity do we have or can we have to recycle and incorporate secondary raw materials from post-consumer textile into production processes?

The people who will participate in the roundtable are the following:
