Re-viste and the Mayor of Lozoyuela (Madrid) visit our Leganés plant

Two weeks after presenting the pilot project for textile and footwear collection in Lozoyuela (Madrid) to evaluate the model in rural environments, representatives from Re-viste and the Lozoyuela Town Council visited our preparation for reuse plant in Leganés (Madrid).

Lucía Balseiro, Mayor of Lozoyuela, and Alberto Fernández, Director of Operations at Re-Viste, were accompanied by Rafael Mas, Director of Projects and External Relations at Humana.

The Mayor learned firsthand how recovered textiles are processed thanks to the containers located in Lozoyuela, as well as the social dimension of our work. For his part, the representative of Re-Viste stated that "work alongside city councils is very important, both with those that already have an operator for used textile management and those that have not yet implemented the selective collection of the textile fraction."

Re-viste (Association for Textile and Footwear Waste Management) presented a pilot project for the management and collection of textile and footwear waste in mid-April in Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias, in collaboration with the local Town Council and Humana.

This initiative, part of a nationwide trial, aims to test a collaborative and sustainable model for selective collection. Lozoyuela-Navas-Sieteiglesias is the only participating municipality in the Community of Madrid.

The pilot project is organized through three selective collection containers for textiles and footwear, distributed among the municipality's various centers to serve the population and evaluate how the model functions in a rural setting with several urban hubs and approximately 1,479 inhabitants. The lessons learned will be essential for successfully replicating the model in other similar rural areas across the country.

This pilot project allows for the definition and evaluation of an operational framework among the various stakeholders involved in the textile waste management chain. In collaboration with local administrations and operators, the initiative is being developed in several towns to cover the country's vast territorial diversity and adapt operations before the mandatory implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles and footwear.
