Humana presents its first Sustainability Report

Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo presents its first Sustainability Report. Although producing a report of this nature is not mandatory in our sector, we have done so in the belief that the professional field of textile waste needs to move towards greater credibility, transparency and good practices.

2024 was an important year for Humana, the prelude to a scenario that seems fundamental for the future of our organisation and all those involved in this sector. With this first Sustainability Report 2024, we are publicising our work in environmental, social and governance matters, and how we manage our impact and our commitments to sustainable development.

‘We have prepared this report with the conviction that it is a key tool for any organisation committed to sustainable development, social responsibility and transparency,’ explains Humana's CEO, Elisabeth Molnar.

"This work is the result of our responsibility. We want to set an example and show that it is possible to manage textile waste in a responsible and transparent manner, with clear dialogue with other stakeholders. It is a key tool for building trust and closeness, which is so scarce in the sector," adds Molnar.

Historically, the textile waste management sector has suffered from a lack of clear and open communication. ‘As textile waste managers, we have a great opportunity: to fulfil our environmental and social role and explain how we do it,’ emphasises the CEO.

This 2024 Sustainability Report is a response to Humana's stakeholders (more than three million people, including donors, clients, government agencies, suppliers, cooperation agencies and other key players) ‘who deserve to know the impact of our work in an honest and rigorous manner’. ‘This document not only contains data and actions, but also our commitment to a way of doing things that focuses on responsibility, sustainability and consistency between what we say and what we do,’ says Molnar.

Leaders in the sector

Since the registration of the Humana Association in the Barcelona Register of Associations in 1987, the same year we opened our first second-hand clothing store (in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Barcelona), Humana's history has been one of pioneering and setting standards in the sector.

The information contained in the 2024 Sustainability Report allows Humana to show how it manages environmental, social and economic impacts. ‘At the same time, it demonstrates how we contribute to sustainability, from reducing emissions to creating jobs, at a time when the sector is facing historic challenges,’ insists the CEO.

With the publication of this 2024 Sustainability Report, Humana is once again positioning itself as a pioneer in the sector, paving the way for others to follow.
