08-10-2026

Ece Şanlı, the circular economy expert at the Humana People to People – the organisation to which we belong – is presenting the Texmat project, an automated system for the reuse and reward scheme for used textiles, at Brussels Climate Week, which takes place from 12 to 16 October.

Brussels Climate Week brings together European institutions, industry leaders, cities and civil society for a week dedicated to climate policy, technological innovation and European competitiveness.

On Tuesday 13 October, an event entitled ‘The Future of Fashion’ will take place, at which our colleague Ece Şanlı will be speaking in two sessions: firstly, she will present the project ‘TexMat: an automated collection and sorting solution for consumer textiles’, which aims to promote a deposit and return scheme for used textiles.

This initiative comprises 14 partners from seven countries, including four Spanish organisations: the University of A Coruña, two technology companies and Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo. The project, which began a year ago, is expected to carry out a pilot trial by the end of 2027 or early 2028, making specially manufactured smart, automated containers available to the public; the integrated technology in these containers will help to pre-sort the items deposited and assess their quality.

Humana’s circular economy expert will then take part in a talk entitled “The future of fashion: priorities for the coming decade”.

Brussels Climate Week aims to showcase European solutions, strengthen collaboration between institutions and industry, and accelerate progress on climate action and economic resilience.
