The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response." Humana People to People aligns with UNAIDS in recognising communities as central to ending AIDS. The 95-95-95 pathway depends on community-led systems that accelerate testing, sustained treatment and viral suppression.
This year, UNAIDS calls on the world to trust communities to lead the way to end AIDS, a call we see reflected every day across Humana People to People. Our core belief remains unchanged: “Only the people can liberate themselves from AIDS”. The Total Control of the Epidemic (TCE) philosophy has proven true for 25 years across villages, towns, mining communities and informal settlements.
Across 12 countries, our members strengthen community-led HIV and TB responses alongside national health systems. Since 2000, we have reached 24.8 million people through TCE, equipping individuals with knowledge, tools, peer support and direct linkage to services.
Communities have the power to transform the HIV response
Our field officers trace index clients, locate sexual partners and vulnerable contacts, provide testing, link people immediately to treatment, and support them to reach viral load suppression, breaking the chain of transmission. Re-engagement visits and TRIO adherence groups ensure no one is left behind.
But the paediatric HIV gap remains urgent: 1.4 million children are living with HIV. We invite partners to help expand PMTCT, early infant testing and child-friendly treatment support.
Our TCE philosophy, “Only the people can liberate themselves from AIDS”, drives our approach across 12 countries. Since 2000, our members have reached 24.8 million people, integrating HIV and TB prevention, testing, treatment support, contact tracing, paediatric follow-up and re-engagement of people who have interrupted therapy.
ICASA conference
Furthermore, the ICASA 2025 conference (International Conference on AIDS And Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa) will start from the 3rd of December ending on the 8th of December 2025, in Accra, Ghana. ICASA 2025 brings together leaders, practitioners, researchers and communities working to end HIV and TB in Africa. Humana People to People is there to learn, connect and contribute evidence from 25 years of community-led HIV and TB action.
