3C Isla de Tercia urban and social agriculture program ends with the delivery of Diplomas

25-01-2021

Humana has just completed the 3C Urban and Social Agriculture Program of Isla de Tercia-Seville with the delivery of Diplomas to the 27 Activists who have successfully completed it, in a small event that took place on Saturday, January 23. Given the restrictions resulting from the health crisis we are going through, only part of the activists have been present in the delivery of these certificates.

The objective of the Foundation and the Activists is that they continue with their work in the garden, already independently and independently of the Program. For this reason, the activists themselves are currently evaluating their integration into the Isla de Tercia Agroecology Association, with which the Foundation signed a collaboration agreement in 2019, thus giving continuity to the work carried out so far.

This would meet one of the objectives of the 3C: its sustainability and durability over time once the period of theoretical-practical training and the support that Humana's agricultural technicians offer has concluded. In this case, it has been 21 months, conditioned during 2020 by the pandemic. However, the program has continued, at a slower pace than expected and with the proper health guarantees, so that, in general terms, the objectives have been met. At this moment the 3C Isla de Tercia has 30 active plots, totaling 1,700 square meters of cultivated area, in which 18 people work.

Air Liquide support

3C Isla de Tercia has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the French company Air Liquide, which contributed a total of 8,000 euros for the purchase of materials necessary for its start-up. Therefore, two representatives of the company were present at the award ceremony and had the opportunity to see first-hand the impressions of the activists.

The garden is located in the north of the Parque del Alamillo in Seville. It is a multifunctional space in which the Agroecological Association and other local groups are involved for its landscape regeneration, through various reforestation campaigns. The activists themselves have occasionally joined in these reforestation efforts.

Another of the pillars of the garden has been its integration at the local level, with various open days and concrete actions in order to 'create community', such as the donation of 50 kilos of vegetables to the 'Casa del Pumarejo' and 'Mujeres Supervivientes', carried out in December 2019. In addition, each Activist involves an average of three people from their environment - family members or friends - who in one way or another participate in the Program, so it can be concluded that about 100 people they have been integrated to a greater or lesser extent in 3C Isla de Tercia.

Promotion of organic farming and respect for our environment

In order to promote sustainable development models at the local level, in 2014 Humana launched the 3C Urban and Social Agriculture Program Cultivating the Climate and the Community. In the case of Isla de Tercia, the 3C orchard was launched in May 2019. Since then, the production of vegetables and greens has amounted to 3.8 tons, with an equivalent monetary value of 9,300 euros. Taking into account that the number of Activists has fluctuated throughout the life of the Program, the average production is approximately 20.26kg per month / person.
