China: fighting against climate change by planting trees

02-06-2022

On the occasion of Arbor Day and World Forest Day, the Yunnan Low Carbon Schools project team carried out various hands-on activities, such as planting all kinds of plants and bushes. Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo has been developing this project since 2020 in China, with funding from the European Union and the collaboration of an outstanding group of local organizations.

Nothing better than discovering with our own hands what to do to make a plant germinate and thereby learn in a practical way the importance of trees and forests for the Planet. The students participating in the activities discovered the enormous carbon sequestration capacity of plants. Therefore, they are an excellent instrument to combat the consequences of climate change and to help reduce the impact of greenhouse gas emissions.

The students had pots, seeds and seedlings for this activity. Basically, indoor species have been used to make it easier for them to germinate and grow inside schools and also in the students' homes.

During the last few weeks, China has established certain restrictions due to the latest outbreaks of coronavirus. Therefore, the activities slowed down. However, thousands of boys and girls of various ages have been involved in this great 'tree planting campaign'.

Against chimneys and exhaust pipes, trees and forests.
