Humana has opened a new store at Passeig de Maragall, 168 in Barcelona. Located in the Sant Andreu district, it is the organization's 24th store in the Catalan capital and its 56th in Spain. This is the organization's second opening in two months: at the end of August, it opened a store in the Les Corts neighborhood.
The new Humana store has 150 m² of retail space and offers 4,500 items pre-selected at the organization's sorting facility in l'Ametlla del Vallès (Barcelona). It is the organization's 24th store in the Catalan capital and its 56th in Spain.
With the opening of this new store, the non-profit organization now has more than 100,000 items of used clothing for sale across its 24 stores. “It is the largest offering from a single operator in the second-hand fashion sector in Catalonia,” explains Rubén González, Humana's Store Strategy Manager.
“In our stores, we work with eight-week sales cycles. That means every eight weeks we change the collection in all our points of sale,” adds González, "so each time we offer more than 100,000 items that are arriving in our stores for the first time, coming from the plant in l'Ametlla del Vallès where they have been sorted. Originally, the clothing comes from donations deposited in the green containers located on the streets of Catalonia or at collection points in our own stores."
The funds generated by the store network enable the development of cooperation projects in southern countries and social actions in Spain. In addition, the organization generates one permanent full-time job in Catalonia for every 19 tons of textiles collected. This capacity to create jobs, together with the social benefits generated by its activity, allows Humana to consolidate its position as a relevant player in the social economy.
On the other hand, this process also has an environmental benefit: the reuse of clothing contributes to the reduction of polluting emissions since, for every kg of clothing recovered that does not end up in a landfill, the emission of 6.1 kg of CO2 is avoided.
The profile of buyers at Humana stores is as follows:
“Family” and “Vintage” stores
Humana stores have traditionally sold all types of reused clothing, without distinction. For the past five years, the organization has differentiated its offerings into “Family Stores” (18 locations in Barcelona) and “Vintage Stores” (6 locations). The new point of sale on Paseo de Maragall belongs to the “Family” category.
