Generating green, quality and inclusive employment

10-07-2018

Humana has among its goals to consolidate itself as an outstanding agent of the social economy, given that its activity generates employment and helps to improve the living conditions of thousands of people, through the work deployed in development cooperation projects in the countries of the South and also in local support actions in Spain.

The Foundation generates a quality job -indefinido and full-time- for every 36,000 kilos of used textile collected. At present, the workforce consists of more than 550 people. This demonstrates the potential of waste management as a generator of green jobs. The averages of age and seniority of the team are 36 and 5 years, respectively.

Working in favor of labor insertion

The organization also has the ability to promote the labor inclusion of people from various groups and thereby contribute to the fight against poverty, one of its fundamental objectives. There are several examples of the work of the Foundation in this area.

  • Humana Integra, the labor insertion company promoted by Humana. It is a bridge between people with difficulties accessing the labor market and potential job seekers in the field of waste management. More information at www.humanaintegra.com
  • The collaboration with entities such as Aura Fundació. The relationship between both entities goes back ten years. Since then, they have encouraged the incorporation of people to Humana's Sustainable Fashion and Clothing team.
  • The agreement that has been in place since 2015 with Obra Social "la Caixa" to favor, through the Incorpora program of the financial institution, the hiring of people at risk of vulnerability.

An award charged with emotion from Aura's hands

There are prizes that recognize a specific work or a certain milestone, and there are also some added value because beyond the award they convey pride, satisfaction and empathy between entities and especially between people. Humana picked up one of the awards granted by Aura Fundació, within the framework of its traditional Summer Act. It is the second recognition received from Aura; the first goes back to 2014, in the framework of the 25th anniversary of this entity.

The award is an acknowledgment to the labor insertion of people with some type of intellectual disability. Humana is considered an entity "with Aura" and that is the best award that can be received. The event, held at the Hotel Arts in Barcelona, ??was attended by a team of the organization, headed by Joan Carrió, coordinator of Humana Integra and liaison with Aura's management. Along with Joan, there were also four people in charge of stores in Barcelona Stores: Paqui Batuecas, Mari Carmen Pla, Cristina Jorge and Ipxy Acuña, as well as the four users of Aura: Nora Santàs; Lidia Guillo, Beatriz Colmenero, and Tatiana Quiñonez.

Aura Foundation was created in 1989 and aims to increase the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities through social and occupational inclusion. Follow the methodology called "Work with Support" so that they can access a job in a company or conventional entity with the necessary support. This non-profit organization has facilitated the hiring of more than 300 people since its inception, demonstrating that labor inclusion is a success if the necessary supports are offered.
