3C, Caprabo and Social Responsibility Week

23-10-2018

Humana offers its employees the opportunity to strengthen their social responsibility actions by promoting the protection of the environment through the sustainable management of textile waste. In addition, through the joint work of the Foundation and the companies with which it collaborates, concrete actions are carried out that have a clear and positive impact both in the field of development cooperation and in the closest territory.

One example is Caprabo, a company with which Humana has been working together for several years, favoring selective collection in its supermarkets. The valorization of the textile recovered in them allows to obtain funds destined to social gardens; this Wednesday morning both entities will present the results of this joint action in the Social Responsibility Week of Catalonia.

Circular economy and revaluation of waste and surplus

The Filmoteca de Catalunya is the setting chosen for the round table "Circular economy and revaluation of waste and surpluses". Cristina Madrilley, from the area of ??Social Responsibility and Environment of Caprabo, will give the lecture entitled "The circular economy: motor of social projects", in which she will describe how and in what way they support social agriculture in Catalonia thanks to the resources generated with the valorisation of the approximately 150 tons of textile collected each year. Next it will be the turn of Mariana Franzon, National Promoter of Humana, who will break down the results obtained by one of the initiatives supported by Caprabo: the 3C Cornellà.

Together, this joint work of sustainability and social responsibility of both entities in the field of agriculture has benefited four projects so far:

  • A therapeutic horticulture company in Lleida
  • The 3C social agriculture program Cultivating Climate and Community of Cornellà de Llobregat (Barcelona)
  • The Can Boxeres Social Garden managed by the Red Cross in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona)
  • The ASSÍSVerd program of the ASSIS Welcome Center in Barcelona

The example of 3C Cornellà

The 3C Cornellà, also known as Community Gardens of Sant Ildefons by the name of the neighborhood in which it is located, was launched in 2015 thanks to the agreement between the City of Cornellà (Barcelona) and Humana: the consistory yielded the land of 2,105 meters square and the Foundation manages it and provides an agricultural technician who trains the activists: 41 in the first promotion and about thirty in the second.

The 3C program encompasses ten social gardens in Catalonia, the Community of Madrid and Andalusia, with more than 500 activists among users and family and friends.

Exchange of CSR experiences

The Social Responsibility Week was born in 2010 and aims, according to its organizers, "to value companies, which are governed by the parameters of social responsibility and sustainable development, and encourage the exchange of experiences in the field of CSR ". In this edition, among other topics, the social economy, the circular economy, the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals and good social action practices will be discussed.
