SIMBITEX, optimization of textile waste management project

09-05-2018

Humana and Cespa GR, SA have launched the SIMBITEX project, funded by the Agència de Residus de Catalunya. This project of industrial symbiosis works in the optimization of textile waste management within the framework of the call for the Promotion of the Circular Economy of Agència.

SIMBITEX intends to carry out an analysis of the textile flow destined to recycling, coming from the selective collection and subsequent preparation for the reuse developed by the Foundation. The objective is to demonstrate if it is possible to produce in a sustained way fiber textile and recycling processes for its promotion in the regional market from the fraction with recovered recycling potential.

For a circular management of Textile Residue

The fundamental objectives of the project are the following:

  • Find complementarity between different actors in the value chain to optimize recycling processes.
  • Broadening the focus of analysis and extrapolating the results to the global waste management process that allows defining the bases of a new framework for collaboration among all actors.
  • Promote research in the field of textile waste management and fiber recycling.
  • Study possible sectors of demand for recycled fiber.

In May, the manipulation and characterization of a selected sample of the textile group destined for recycling from the 3,500 tons of textile waste processed last year at the preparation plant for the reuse of Humana in l'Ametlla del Vallès began.
